Q. How much time does an Interior Refinement™ actually take?
A. An IRN consultation lasts from one-and-a-half to three hours per room, which allows the decorator to consult on as many rooms as the client desires in just one day.

Q. How many visits are necessary for an Interior Refinement™?
A. An IRN consultation requires only one visit to the home because everything is done in one day, no matter how many rooms are being refined. This saves both the client and decorator time and money.

Q. Will I be asked to leave my home during a consultation?
A. Never. An IRN consultation encourages the client's participation. The IRN decorator never asks a client to leave their home. An IRN decorator respects that the furnishings belong to the client and not to them. An IRN decorator involves the client in every step of the decision-making process. This insures that each client has her/his preferences reflected in the way the home is redecorated.

Q. Can an Interior Refiner help me decorate an empty room too?
A. Interior Refiners are paid for their expertise and the information they provide, therefore IRN decorators frequently consult on empty rooms too (such as when clients are moving into a new home). But whenever necessary and where it is physically possible, furnishings are rearranged the day of the consultation. If oversized pieces cannot be moved, the IRN decorators will specify placement in the written design plan for the client to move at a later date when proper help is available. It is the client's responsibility to make arrangements for moving any heavy pieces.

Q. Can an Interior Refiner® fix up a house quickly to help it sell for the best price?
A. Absolutely. All Interior Refiners Network® members specialize in transforming homes quickly and easily. If any purchases or changes are needed, IRN members give sellers written plans with easy, inexpensive suggestions that can be implemented immediately. This allows real estate brokers to have successful open houses in just days.

Q. I'm terrified of making expensive decorating mistakes. How can I avoid wasting money and aggravating myself?
A. IRN consultations emphasize educating clients. This approach empowers and enlightens homeowners and renters so they become more independent and relaxed about their projects'. Interior Refiners always make sure all of their clients' questions are answered and that they are clear about all aspects of their projects before the consultations end. The results help clients achieve their decorating goals and save money.

Q. How will I know if the local Interior Refiner™ I hire shares my style preference? And how will I know what a consultation costs?
A. Interior Refiners have great respect for their clients' preferences and therefore work in every style, be it traditional, modern, country or eclectic. The basis for every IRN consultation is the feedback provided by the each client at the time of her or his consultation. Since Interior Refiners are not franchisees but independent business owners, they each determine their own price structure based on their individual market. Most charge a flat, by-the-room rate for consultations and will also shop for or with a client, charging an hourly fee. Many will also accommodate full service clients. Each Interior Refiners Network® member is happy to provide her or his rates and answer questions.

Q. How can I become an Interior Refiner™?
A. All Interior Refiners are trained by Lauri Ward, the pioneer of the one-day redecorating and redesign industry. Upon satisfactory completion of the Use What You Have Decorator Training Program, all Interior Refiners™ are certified in the original Use What You Have® system, that has been used to transform thousands of homes since 1981, and are eligible for membership in the Interior Refiners Network®. Only members of the Interior Refiners Network® may use the IRN logo and the initials 'IRN' after their name.
